Shortcake was founded in Los Angeles in 2018 by lifelong musicians and longtime friends Katie Day, Kyle VandeKerkhoff, and Dmitriy Bolotnyy. Originally intended to be a boutique custom house, the company quickly grew a library of high end tracks from around the globe and an impressive roster of world class artists and composers. No matter your music or audio needs, Shortcake delivers the perfect slice without the stress, so you can have your cake and eat it too.

Katie is our resident translator. As the current professor of Berklee College of Music’s “Writing and Producing Advertising Music” course, she’s mastered the art of taking non-musical vocabulary and interpreting it for composers. Katie is the liaison between the music in your head and the music in your project.

Kyle is Shortcake’s audio genius. A former Interscope engineer, he spent over a decade working with some of the biggest artists in the world from Avicii to Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Schoolboy Q, and Kali Uchis. Kyle is here to make your project sound like it cost more than you could get approved in your budget.
As the Ukrainian son of the pianist from Sinyaya Ptitsa, commonly known as “the Beatles of the Soviet Union”, Dmitriy was born to make music. Shortcake’s winningest composer and an artist in his own right, he simply drips creativity. We won’t make you read more about Dmitriy. We just want you to hear him.
